And no new screw holes! I used a small offcut of aluminium/PVC composite sheet, trimmed to shape, and used the mounting holes that surround one of the heated seat switches (rarely used in Queensland, Australia). Just needed some longer screws, and some rubber grommets as spacers, and there you go. Works perfeectly, and out of the way of all important switchgear.

Another small piece of composite, attached to the back of the RAM mount I use for a tablet, and I had somewhere to mount the headset for my VHF as well:

My old 110 had UHF, VHF, and HF sets. No problem, as there was plenty of space. Space is a bit more of a premium in the Grenadier. Especially if you’ve already optioned the second battery under the rear seat. And where are you going to put the head unit?

One solution is the ICOM-2730A or one of its similar siblings in different brands. This is a dual band (VHF and UHF) unit with a compact base unit and seperate head unit. The microphone can plug into the head or the base unit, giving a variety of mounting options.

I’m not entirely sure where the base unit is going. Preferably under the rear seat. The head unit can just mount on the dash… but there’s a nice spot on the overhead switch panel that just seems made for it! To keep it all tidy the microphone can end up wired into the storage cubby.

The dual band antenna can be mounted on the bullbar, roof rack, roof bar, or rear ladder (my favourite).
